Kiwano, an annual plant also known as horned melon, is a vine in the melon family with long, trailing shoots. It produces large oval-shaped fruits that grow from 10 to 15 centimeters in length and from 200 to 300 grams in weight. The fruits have very juicy pulp with a very refreshing taste. Kiwano is often used as an ingredient in salads or low-calorie desserts. The fruit is edible and is also used as a beautiful decoration.
Sow 2 to 3 seeds in pots (7-8cm) in the second half of April. Seeds germinate in about two weeks at 20-24°C. Grow plants in sheltered, sunny locations in moist, fertile soils.
