Butter lettuce Appia (Lactuca sativa) is intended for growing in plastic tunnels, greenhouses and open ground. The large heads are tightly coiled with large, light green, delicious, succulent leaves with a soft, wrinkled surface. Seeds are sown in early spring under covers or a little later directly. May Queen lettuce is fairly undemanding when it comes to soil and will produce rich yields in any fertile, permeable, moderately moist soil.
