(O. basilicum) The leaves are small, light green to yellow-green, rounded, with a pronounced lemon aroma. It should be shaped early and often to give it a fuller shape. The flowers are white and bloom very profusely. To obtain greenery for a longer period, flowering is delayed by hilling the shoots. Used fresh, dried, frozen, especially with dishes where the presence of lemon is desired. Essential oil content 0.10-0.15%. Grows in beds, on balconies, on windowsills.
