(Mentha rotundifolia) Apple mint is an ideal addition to refreshing soft drinks due to the delicious apple flavor of its leaves. It grows as a dense, semicircular shrub whose stems are covered with small, hairy, round, bright green leaves. The plants are 50-60 cm tall.
Apple mint seeds can be sown directly or in a pot. This plant requires moist but not too heavy soil rich in humus. Standard potting soil will work in container growing. Exposure to full sunlight is essential. Pineapple, mint or leaf mint, as this species is also called, is not problematic and tolerates frost well, provided it is grown in a sheltered area. Its leaves should be harvested from August through October.
